Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service
The Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service (AHMS) is an alternative to Austria’s compulsory national military service. AHMS was founded in 1992. Since 1998 it is part of the Austrian Service Abroad. AHMS representatives work at major Holocaust memorial institutions in 23 countries worldwide. The German name is Gedenkdienst (Memorial Service). The organization is interested in the causes and consequences of Nazism and offers support to its victims. Women have been allowed to participate in the programme since 2013. The Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service and the Holocaust Education and Genocide Prevention Foundation began to work together in 1994.
Viennese Ball of Montreal
Since 1962, the Austrian Society has brought the experience of the Viennese Ball to Montreal. Every year, our charity Ball donates all proceeds to causes that fall in line with our mission. The first Ball was held in aid of SOS Children’s Villages and still continues to be one of our most treasured beneficiaries.
Every year, the Viennese Ball brings generations and cultures together to celebrate Austrian music, culinary delights, tradition, and custom. The Viennese Ball is a look to the future with a foot firmly rooted in the past.
Lending us her support for our charitable mission at the 2015 edition of the Viennese Ball of Montreal, THE FLEDERMAUS BALL, was our very special Guest of Honor Julie Payette, OC, CQ, Canadian Astronaut and Engineer, Chief Operating Officer at the Montreal Science Center, Director of the National Bank of Canada. Ms. Payette joined a long line of outstanding Canadian and international personalities that have honoured us with their presence and support through the years.
This year our Austrian Holocaust Memorial Intern Tobias Stübinger and the former Austrian Holocaust Memorial Intern Benedikt Baratsits-Gruber participate as Escorts at the Viennese Ball to Montreal.
